Washington Park National Bank
Project Background:
The Washington Park National Bank was unveiled in Preservation Chicago's 2020 'Chicago 7' most endangered Chicago buildings. CallisonRTKL was approached to put together a proposal that would repurpose the building and save it from demolition. An existing proposal to demolish the historic bank and replace it with a new building haunted 6300 S. Cottage Grove, Chicago. Our proposal repurposed the historic bank into a multi-use retail, office space with an addition that maximized the building footprint's usable square footage and added a rooftop event space.
My Project Role:
I assisted the design for this proposal and did the 3D modeling, sketching, and visualization for the proposal.
Guyon Hotel Reimagining - Internal Competition
Project Background:
The abandoned Guyon Hotel in West Garfield Park needed reimagining. CRTKL Chicago held an internal competition to develop new visions for this once vibrant hotel. My team's proposal chose to preserve the iconic architecture of the Guyon hotel while repurposing the interior for shared retail spaces for the local community, a residential component, and a rooftop restaurant and community garden. The exposed existing brick on the back of the hotel would become a canvas for local artists.
My Project Role:
I assisted the design for this proposal and did the 3D modeling and visualization.
Our Block - Internal Competition
Project Background:
The "South Shore Cultural Collective" was my team's proposal to revitalize the South Shore neighborhoods, using a repurposed Avalon Regal Theater as the anchor for redevelopment. Our proposal takes advantage of Chicago history, as opposed to building new. Historic Chicago homes and local businesses from surrounding neighborhoods that have been abandoned would be relocated to this area to rebuild the community. The scrolling storyboard below will tell the rest of the story.
This competition was firm-wide, showcasing over 15 proposals. Among the proposals, my team received 3rd place overall for our unique storytelling approach and idea to repurpose Chicago history instead of build new.
My Project Role:
I assisted the design for this proposal, helped build the story, and created the scrolling storyboard (seen below) for the team.
